Aparecido en 1930, en este artículo Sigmund Freud plantea que la insatisfacción del hombre por la cultura se debe a que esta controla sus impulsos eróticos y agresivos, especialmente estos últimos, ya que el hombre tiene una agresividad innata que puede desintegrar la sociedad. La cultura controlará esta agresividad internalizándola bajo la forma de Superyo y dirigiéndola contra el yo, el que entonces puede tornarse masoquista o autodestructivo.
