Dieses Buch beschreibt den Entwurf und die Implementierung der Software für das Kontrollbüro eines GPS-basierten Fahrzeugverfolgungssystems. Das Design eines GPS-basierten Fahrzeugverfolgungssystems basiert auf drei verschiedenen Modulen, nämlich den GPS-Modulen (Global Positioning System) zur Erfassung der Positionsdaten, dem Mikrocontrollermodul zur Koordinierung der drei Module und dem GSM-Modul (Global System for Mobile communications) zur Übertragung der Informationen in Form von SMS. Die vom GPS-Empfänger erfassten Daten liegen im RMC-Format des NMEA-Standards vor, der nicht nur den Breiten- und Längengrad, sondern auch die Uhrzeit, das Datum, die Anzahl der verwendeten aktiven Satelliten, die Geschwindigkeit über Grund und den Spurwinkel angibt. Die Softwareschnittstelle wird auf der Empfangsseite (Kontrollstelle) verwendet, um die Position des Fahrzeugs auf einer Karte anzuzeigen. Zu diesem Zweck werden Wikimapia.org und atlas.mapquest.com verwendet.
