Synopsis "Early Catholic Church Records in Baltimore, Maryland, 1782-1800 (in English)"
St. Peter's Catholic Church was founded by the Jesuit Fathers to meet the needs of the French Acadian refugees and the Irish immigrants of Baltimore City, Maryland. It was the first building erected as a Catholic church in the city. Its records are part of the Baltimore Cathedral Archives and contain the only Catholic parish records up to the year 1806, when the records of St. Patrick's Church, Fells Point, began to be preserved. This book contains alphabetically-arranged baptismal (1782-1800), marriage (1783-1800), and burial (1783-1800) data as transcribed from the original records from the first entry in 1782 through the year 1800 inclusive. Where handwriting was indecipherable or data were missing, the authors have provided this information from other sources, such as marriage license records, if available. In the case of slaves lacking a last name, the compilers have provided the owner's last name in parentheses as an aid to researchers. (
