Synopsis "Don't Bring Roses (in English)"
How does a person thrive in a world that seems to disavow their worthiness? Alcohol, drugs, and abuse all describe the atmosphere that impacts the characters in Don't Bring Roses. Lula, complex in so many ways, is reminded about significant events that have shaped her life, like seeing a friend being molested as a young girl and the murder of her first true love. Add into the mixture her own personal emotional abuse provided at the hands of men who were supposed to love her. Like a piece of thread that unravels when you pull it, Lula's experiences uncover one lesson after another. Deek, Lula's philandering father, hasn't been seen in years yet his absence speaks volumes. Despite the guidance and unconditional love of her mother, Sadie, Lula follows the path of many young girls before her. Looking for someone who will replace the fatherly love she was deprived of. Share, Lula's older sister, cannot fathom life without a man in it. She is so busy moving from one lover to another that she has little time to learn what she really wants. Their older brother, affectionately called Blacky, tries his best to become a man without a tangible role model to assist him. He stumbles, but he keeps getting up, determined to be the person that some said he could never be.
