Da Macedonskis Werk als Replik auf Eminescus Werk gilt, zieht es aufgrund seiner Komplexität und Originalität die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Die Studie soll die Tatsache hervorheben, dass die Insel und das Meer in Eminescus "Cezara" und Macedonskis "Thalassa" zusätzlich zu den konkreten kontextuellen Bedeutungen, Strukturen und Funktionen, die sie besitzen, neue Valenzen erhalten, indem sie zu Räumen des Eros und/oder des Thanatos werden. Aus dekorativer Sicht ist die Schlangeninsel ("Thalassa") eine karge Insel, während die Insel des Euthanasius ("Cezara") eine üppige Vegetation enthält. "Thalassa" ist eine Kurzgeschichte, die um einen heidnischen Mythos herum aufgebaut ist und ein geschlossenes Finale hat.
