Die Arbeit wurde mit dem Förderungspreis 1988 der Dr. Margrit Egnér-Stiftung ausgezeichnet. Im Zentrum der Arbeit steht die Frage nach der Strukturierung von Traumbedeutung. Die Bedeutung des Traums wird als Ergebnis eines traumübergreifenden Zeichenprozesses aufgefasst. Auf der Basis der Semiotik von C.S. Peirce entwickelt der Autor einen Code, der - unter Einbezug der Lebenssituation des Träumers - in Traumtexten eine Fülle von Bedeutungsfragmenten und in Interpretationstexten eine Reihe von Bedeutungsaussagen entdecken lässt. In Anwendung des Codes auf ein Traumbeispiel und auf zugehörige Interpretationsversuche durch Traumexperten kann im Detail verfolgt werden, wie sich Traumbedeutung aufbaut.
