It is June, 1947. Jake Weaver, military writer and investigative reporter for William Randolph Hearst's Los Angeles Herald-Express -- in the midst of probing into the possibly criminal activities of Bugsy Siegel -- suddenly finds himself floundering in the murky waters of the LA underworld. As he stirs the muck and foolisly perseveres, Weaver endangers the lives of his nearest and dearest, his own wife and daughter.
