A las comienzas del siglo XVI uno de los acontici-mientos más interesantes en la historia fue la denominación como "América" del continente recién descubierto al otro lado de Atlántico por Cristóbal Colón en 12 de octubre de 1492. Este nombre apareció en unos mapas sin saber la mayoría de los científicos. En la primera etapa nadie daba la importancia a esta cuestión actual. En 80% de los mapas compuestos por los cartógrafos europeos, este territorio empezó a presentarse como "América". Este cuestión se convirtió en un problema serio después de que "América" apareció frecuentemente en los mapas. Pero es verdad que, España, Portugal e Italia negaban denominar este continente como "América" y los europeos temporalmente llamaban este territorio desconocido como las costas del Nuevo Mundo.
