Der österreichische Mathematiker und Physiker Christian Andreas Doppler (1803-1853) wurde vor allem für dem nach ihm benannten Doppler-Effekt bekannt. Veröffentlicht hat Doppler sein Forschungsergebnis über die Veränderungen von Wellenfrequenzen in dem Buch "Über das farbige Licht der Doppelsterne", das ihn nach seiner Publikation 1842 weltweit bekannt machte.Nach seinem Studium der Mathematik und Physik in Wien und der Philospohie in Salzburg, erhielt Doppler 1835 eine Professorenstelle an der Universität Prag. In dieser Zeit publizierte er mehr als fünfzig wissenschaftliche Arbeiten über Mathematik, Elektrizität und Astronomie. Seine "Abhandlungen" befassen sich vor allem mit dem Licht der Gestirne.
