Steve is the only boy in his school who has a human father and a funny human name. From childhood he has had an intense desire to travel from his home on the planet Covar to visit Earth. A student exchange program gives him his opportunity. During the nine-month journey, he meets another Covarian student and a human who is returning home. The human attempts to explain to his friends what humans and life on Earth are like. As they near their destination, their lives are put in danger when fear of aliens develops on Earth. Will Steve arrive safely on his father's home planet? Or will his journey come to an end on a dying spacecraft aimlessly orbiting the Earth?
