Twelve-year old Step (Stephen) Patrick is an only child struggling with Aspergers. With his high IQ, he's already in high school. But, fitting in is the least of his problems. Step has a monster named Tony under his bed and Tony is becoming more dangerous every day. Set in the 1980s in a New England home built atop a holy site for the Native-American Namtuxets, Carved in Stone is a YA supernatural thriller about a boy who learns to work with friends, family and community members to solve a mystery and right a past wrong by doing so. Step's problem lies in his own closet where he finds a portal into the afterlife. But his search for answers forces him into the neighborhood, to the public library, and to the local historical society, where he discovers the monster's secret. If he can rid the netherworld of an evil creature, Step can protect his family and friends and a world he comes to realize he loves much more than he knew.
