Synopsis "Canadian Futurist: Thomas D'Arcy McGee and the Idea of National Education (in English)"

Thomas D'Arcy McGee became an immigrant from Ireland to Canada in 1857. He settled in Montreal, got elected to Parliament, and became a Founding Father of Canada when its colonies confederated into a united dominion in 1867. McGee helped to lead the Confederation of Canada in 1867. He also advocated the need for Canada to fully embrace scientific education to become competitive in the New Industrial Revolution. Biographers have focused on his political career which led to his assassination in 1868 at a very early age. This study documents the educational enthusiasm of McGee to restore a balance to his legacy to Canada.
