Synopsis "Analysis of Romanticism and Romantic features (in English)"

The dramatic evolution of social change from the 19th century onwards is very remarkable. Earlier studies in literature have associated this social change with Romanticism. Recent studies are generally concentrated on poetry and partially on prose. Very few studies have been done on drama. This study compares the Romantic movement in France and Germany through two dramas in order to better understand the social problems and ongoing changes of the 21st century. The study specifically examined the romantic features in Victor Hugo's Hernani and Wolfgang Goethe's Faust. This study is based on some dramas, films, stories and biographies about Romanticism. We drew on Nwezeh's Text and Context Method, Hebert's Comparative Method, and Greimas' Actancial Model theory. This study showed that Romanticism often results in social change through a dynamism that causes social problems. The study evoked that the fatal love for a personality and for a concept is a determining factor in the choice between reason and sentiment.
