Synopsis "America Today: A Personal View (in English)"
I am Scottish, but such has been my interest in this country and its people over a lifetime, it has inspired me to try and put some of my findings down on paper. I have tried to capture America in some of its many manifestations as perceived by a 'Johnny Foreigner', as my English cousins would say. In part it is a catch-as-catch-can of reminiscences and events that date from my earliest years; and of the impressions created by quite a few visits to the USA. In the delliberations that accompany all this I have made a determined effort to find the people and the land; to locate its soul; and send back to Americans what the outside world likes and doesn't like about their homeland. It is written in a light-hearted manner; one which I hope will raise a few guffaws of laughter at times, yet will also make people ponder a point or two. The illustrations included are meant to bring to the reader the immediacy of a place, the reality of a topic, a feeling of substance.
