Aufgrund des hohen Festigkeits-/Gewichtsverhältnisses von DP-Stahl und des Fehlens von Streckgrenzenphänomenen findet er breite Anwendung in der Automobilindustrie. Das Mikrogefüge von DP-Stahl ist eine Kombination aus einer harten Phase (Martensit) und einer weichen und duktilen Phase (Ferrit). Eine solche Mikrostruktur ist charakteristisch für Verbundwerkstoffe und hat ein gro es Potenzial, Verschlei und Abrieb zu widerstehen, wenn sie im richtigen Verhältnis vorhanden ist. Das Buch behandelt auch einige grundlegende Verschlei phänomene und die Leistung von DP-Stählen in bestimmten Verschlei umgebungen.
