Synopsis "A Vacation through Time on the Oregon Trail (in English)"

A vacation through time on the Oregon Trail is about a vacation we had been planning to take for a number of years, but life kept getting in the way. It begins with the drive east on Interstate Highway 84 to Baker City, Oregon, to visit the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. After spending time walking through the center, I got a headache and told my husband I was going outside. As I came out, I noticed an eerie darkness in the sky. All of a sudden, my slight headache felt like a knife was shoved in my head. I sat down on the bench and leaned back against the wagon and closed my eyes. I could almost hear the noise of people talking, a horse neighing, cows mooing, the campfire popping and crackling. I heard my husband's voice. "Caitlin . . . Kate! Kate!" As I opened my eyes, there stood my husband-no, this was not husband. I went to stand up to walk toward him. I felt encumbered. I looked down at my legs, and I was wearing a long blue dress with an apron. I looked back at him, and everything went black. When I awoke, I told myself I was on vacation. What just happened? I remembered the strange sky. It seemed somehow I was back in the 1800s . . . on the Oregon Trail. Oh my god! This can't be happening to me.
