In the world of Tyriel, there have been many tales of mighty warriors, benevolent kings, and ruthless tyrants. These stories, and all the history of Tyriel, can be found in Great Libraries that are scattered throughout the realms. In these bastions of academia, The Keepers maintain and pass on the histories of man by recording and storing thousands upon thousands of books, scrolls, legends, and texts. From the mighty heroes of old to the magical Sundering Wars, the Keepers ensure the survival of these great works and tales, however, few of these stories have been shared as often as those of Gerhold of Vilheim.For years, Gerhold the monster slayer roamed the realms cutting his way through the likes of werewolves, vampires, cursed beings, and specters alike. The stories of his exploits spread, bards sung ballads of his mighty deeds, and his legend grew, until one day, when the slayer vanished from the pages of history. No bard, no Keeper, and no priest seemed to know what had happened, and if any did, they kept it to themselves. For years, the fate of Gerhold of Vilheim faded into memory, memory became myth, myth became legend, and the name of Gerhold of Vilheim became known throughout the world.One Hundred years after the famed hunter's disappearance, a young man named Jarrell Vorren is training to be a Keeper. Disillusioned by the hours of study and copying of texts, the young man longs for adventure and excitement, both of which find him. One night while Jarrell is hard at work, a travelling stranger arrives at the Great Library of Eldrith with the most extraordinary of claims, that he has in his possession the lost journals of the legendary slayer, Gerhold of Vilheim. The stranger offers the Keepers three nights, three chances to determine their authenticity, and it falls to Jarrell to read the texts and uncover the mystery behind the pages.
